Science Assignment: Birds of Taiwan

Hey guys, Betty here, today I’m going to tell you about the birds in Taiwan—the avifauna of Taiwan includes the total of 471 species, of which 15 are endemic, 1 has been introduced by humans, and 76 are rare accidental, 27 species are globally threatened.

Before I tell you about the amazing birds that you might haven’t seen yet, you might be wondering why the birds are being threatened. The answer is, actually it is because of us. People keep changing beautiful nature forests (which are their home) into tourist spot which is different from what it supposed to be. What would you feel like if a bunch of giant in weird clothes with scary tools just come to your house and destroy everything?

Imagine when you are getting foods in the river, you finish your lunch happily, but after that, on the way back home, you got a horrible stomach ache, you felt like dieing, do you want anything like that happen to you? Lots of factories in Taiwan are spouting hazardous water illegally to the rivers; they don’t even care about what would happen and how much it can effects wild nature animals’ life if they keep doing what they are doing right now.

Here, some information about some amazing birds in Taiwan.

*Migrate—a species that occurs in Taiwan rarely, only in the summer or then winter. Including:
Bean Goose, Bull-headed Shrike, Black-faced Spoonbill, Mew Gull, Chinese, Bamboo Partridge, Short-tailed Albatross, etc.

*Endemic—a species endemic to Taiwan, including:
Japanese White-eye, Taiwanese Hwamei, Taiwan Bush Warbler, Light-Vented Bulbul, Grey-Capped Pygmy Wood Pecker, Collared Scops Owl, Oriental Turtle Dove, crested Serpent-eagle, Yellow Bittern, Mikado Pheasant, etc.
*Vagrancy: Lesser Whistling Duck, Laysan Albatross, Black Bittern, Little Owl, Chinese Grey Shrike, Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher, etc.

Some Migrate birds are like passengers in the airport, Taiwan is just like an international airport to them, it’s not their home, and they will only stay here for a while, so next time, when you see some unfamiliar birds; please try not to catch them!!!
